Patricia Roche Sayers (Pat) (February 2, 1948 to November 19, 2017), was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents. She is survived by her brothers, Joseph Hanley Sayers (Lindy Beazley) and Richard Roche Sayers (Elizabeth Grove), her sister Helen Michael Sayers Stegall, and her nephews and nieces: Joseph Hanley Sayers III (Mary Birch McLaughlin), Richard Yates Sayers, Katherine Elizabeth Sayers and Scott Larkin Stegall. She was a favorite aunt and friend to her great nieces and nephews, Joseph Hanley Sayers IV, Hodges McLaughlin Sayers, Mary Emmett McLean Sayers, Rosa Litton Lockwood Sayers, and Lindsay Alexis Stegall and Tyler Blake Stegall. Pat is also survived by her dear friends, Larry and Vicky Carter, who took care of her in so many ways in the last years of her life. Their friendship was very special to Pat and to her family.
Pat grew up in Nashville and graduated from St. Cecelia, and attended Aquinas College. Devoted to her calling, Pat spent her life caring for others within the medical profession. She was a beloved mentor to everyone in her field. She willingly took on leadership roles wherever she found herself, and was a kind and loving support to every patient on her watch.
Pat’s friends and family were all touched by her gentle demeanor, her unselfish gift of herself to everyone and her quiet sense of humor. She fought a long, brave battle with cancer and in that time never lost her ability to laugh and to love. She rarely asked for anything for herself, and she was always most concerned about the needs of those around her, whether they were family, friends, or patients.
Pat’s family is especially grateful for the tender care given her these last years by Linda Hardy, Antoinette Webb-Bediako and Felicia Shinault.
The pallbearers are J. Hanley Sayers, Richard Joseph Roche Sayers, Joseph Hanley Sayers III, Allen Davis Lentz, and Lawrence Lloyd Carter.
A family graveside service at Calvary Cemetery will be scheduled at a later date. Contributions in her memory may be made to MD Anderson Cancer Center, The University of Texas, Post Office Box 4486, Houston, Texas 77210-4486, or Alive Hospice, 1718 Patterson Street, Nashville, Tennessee 37203.
