Oral T. Smith

Oral T. Smith, age 83 of Nashville, died Monday, May 24, 2010. Preceded in death by parents, Daniel R. and Ona M. Smith; sister, Ina and brother, Odus Smith. Survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Mildred Gentry Smith; daughter, Sherry (Bruce) Reid; son, John (Georganne) Smith; brother, Aaron G. Smith; sister, Iris Hogg; grandchildren, Alicia (Brian) Roberts, Amanda (Richard) Bannister, Amy (B.J.) Morris, Hailey Smith and David Smith; great grandchildren, Brayden and Nolan Roberts and Reid Bannister; numerous nieces and nephews. A native of Jackson County, TN, he lived in Nashville for the past 55 years. He was a faithful member and former Elder of the Lebanon Road Church of Christ. He was a former member of the Donelson Civitan Club for many years, serving in various offices including President during 1975 – 76. He was former President of Oral Smith and Associates, Inc. In his career as a professional engineer, he designed public water and sewer system projects throughout the Middle Tennessee area. Oral will be remembered in love and missed by his family and many friends. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 27, 2010 in Hibbett & Hailey Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Harry Middleton officiating. Interment will follow in Rob Draper Cemetery, Gainesboro, TN at 2:30 p.m. Family members will serve as active Pallbearers. The Elders and Deacons of Lebanon Road Church of Christ will serve as Honorary Pallbearers. Visitation with the family 4:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. Wednesday and 1 hour prior to the service Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Red Cross, 2201 Charlotte Ave., Nashville, TN 37203.
