Mr. Elkins was born in New Hope, Alabama, on February 2, 1926. He worked as a sales representative in the health and beauty industry. He attended Wingate Church of Christ, and he had such a strong, loyal faith and devotion to the Lord. Mr. Elkins took great pride in being a member of "The Strider's," better known as "The Liar's Club." He enjoyed watching football and baseball; his favorites were Alabama Crimson Tide and the Atlanta Braves. He proudly served our country in the Army during World War II as a Tank Driver and a Sergeant. He was a devoted husband, father and brother. His infectious personality left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his loving wife of sixty-five years, Classie Elkins, and his brothers and sisters.
Survivors include two sons, Ray (Beverly) Elkins and Jimmy (Molly) Elkins; three granddaughters; four step-grandsons, nine step-great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Alice Cammuse, and several nieces and nephews.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Friday, October 16, 2015, from six o'clock until eight o'clock in the evening at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home, and also on Saturday, October 17, 2015, one hour prior to the service.
The Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2015, at eleven thirty in the morning in Woodlawn's Dignity Hall.
Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Serving as Pallbearers will be Ronny Graves, Andrew Ogles, Heith Ogles, Kyle Olges, Justin Ogles and Jimmy Ratliff.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
