

Mrs. Shields was born in Nashville on November 27, 1922. She graduated from David Lipscomb High School and College, and also attended Pepperdine University before marrying her childhood sweetheart, Ben Cockrill Shields, Jr. on September 17, 1945. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lucy Womack Porch and Neely Hooper Porch, sister, Betty Porch Morris and husband, Ben C. Shields, Jr.
A devoted wife, loving mother and gracious hostess, Nancy was a lifelong member of Hillsboro Church of Christ, where she was active in the women’s bible study group and the World Bible School. She was a member of the Golden Circle at David Lipscomb University, the Associated Ladies of Lipscomb, and she enjoyed quilting and playing bridge. She is survived by her three daughters Bonnie (Don) Barker, Rachel (Ed) Austin, Jennie (Steve) Slowey, seven grandchildren Brandon (Vicki) Adams, Ben (Katie) Adams, Ward (Kelly) Austin, Lucy (Matt) Cummings, Amanda (AJ) Carroll, Stephan (Shelby) Slowey, Michael Slowey and fiancé, Megan Mullaney, six great grandchildren Caroline and Julia Kate Adams, Addie and Ford Austin, and Callie and Austin Cummings.
Visitation will be held in Nashville in the chapel at Hillsboro Church of Christ, 5800 Hillsboro Pike, on Tuesday, October 13th from 9:00 to 11:00 AM. A Memorial Service at 11:00 AM to celebrate her life will follow, officiated by longtime family friends, Randall Pardue, Scott Price and P.K. Bramlett. With her grandsons as her pallbearers, Nancy will be laid to rest alongside her husband, Ben, and other family members at Mt Olivet Cemetery.
Her family gratefully acknowledges and deeply appreciates all the loving kindness and special care extended to their mother by her relatives, friends and caregivers, particularly during the last few months of her life.
