Mary Nell Landrum died on Christmas Day, 2016 at her home in Nashville. The daughter of Garland and Martha Era Stroud, she was born in 1921 on a farm near Statesville in Wilson County, TN, and graduated from Watertown High School in 1939.
As a young woman, she moved to Nashville and went to work as a secretary at McQuiddy Printing Company, where she met a McQuiddy salesman, Garnett Landrum. They married in 1945, and had three daughters who survive her, Jeanne Landrum Rabb, Boulder, CO; Ann Landrum, Arlington, VA; and Lynn Landrum Green (Riney), Nashville.
After Mr. Landrum died in 1978, Mary Nell married Woodrow Looney, who also predeceased her. Other family members who preceded her in death were her sister, Margaret Jordan, and brothers Harry, Malcolm, Carlyle and J.L. Stroud.
In addition to her daughters, she is survived by six grandchildren, Jessica Rabb, Nashville; David Rabb (Cathy), Los Angeles; Lauren Rayner Davis (Logan), New York City; Ellen Green Hoffman (Brian), Beth Green and William Green, Nashville; two great-grandchildren, Henry and Oscar Field, Nashville; and several nieces and nephews.
Mary Nell enjoyed keeping house, cooking, playing bridge, following politics and being “Ahmama” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of Belmont Heights Baptist Church and a longtime volunteer at St. Thomas Hospital.
A graveside service will be held at noon Friday, December 30th at Woodlawn Memorial Park, with visitation at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home one hour prior to the service.
