Predeceased by parents, Ruth Holland VanDyke and Murry Faye VanDyke. Survived by husband of 70 years, Walter Eugene Hughes; son, Vann H. Hughes; granddaughters Vanessa Hughes and Erika Hughes; great grandchildren Holland, Catherine, Gabriella Harris, and Henry Farmer.
After graduating Sardis High School, Mary moved to Nashville and worked at Third National Bank where she met many life-long friends and soon met and married Eugene. They were longtime members of Andrew Price United Methodist Church in Donelson. They attended until the coronavirus and health issues prevented attendance. Always active in church and local charities, she nurtured a Girl Scout Troop at the Tennessee School for the Blind for many years and later became a wedding planner and florist. A member of the Ladies’ Hermitage Association and Friends of Two Rivers Mansions, community activism, helping others, and her church were her constant missions in life. Later she became a realtor and enjoyed helping new families and old friends find and buy their forever homes. Before the pandemic, she was active for many years in the Room in the Inn program at Andrew Price.
A Celebration of Life is being planned for a later date and will be announced. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Second Harvest Food Bank or a charity near to your heart. She is already missed, but never forgotten.
