CHEEK, Mary Sue Vaughn age 95 passed away on May 22, 2013. Born April 2, 1918. Preceded in death by her parents C. Keith and Katherine Buchanan Vaughn; husband Joel O. Cheek III; brother, Keith Vaughn Jr. and his wife Carrie and niece Sally Steelman Harper. She is survived by her sister Ann Vaughn Poindexter; nephews, Keith C. Vaughn III and Sam P. Vaughn; great nephews Keith Vaughn IV, Kevin C. Vaughn, Austin Vaughn, Matthew Vaughn and Steve Steelman; great nieces, Ashlie Vaughn, Kimberly Proctor and Sarah Katherine Wilkerson; 8 great, great nephews and 5 great, great nieces; long time friend Monona Garrett; caregivers, Sandra Andrews and Mary A. Mrs. Cheek was a graduate of Parmer Elementary and Peabody Demonstration School (1935) and then attended Mrs. Garret’s Business College. She worked for J.S. Reeves Co. a wholesale dry goods business and the State of Tennessee in the Health Department. She later transferred to the State of Tennessee Selective Service Operation supervising all counties in Tennessee. She retired from the State of Tennessee in 1975. Mary Sue lived with her mother in the family home in Bells Bend until her mother’s death in 1980. She married the love of her life, Joel O. Cheek III in 1981, he died in 2001. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday May 25, 2013 at the Cathedral of The Incarnation. Visitation with the family will be from 9-11 before the service. Private interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Serving as active Pallbearers will be Walton Draper, Brock Kidd, Jimmy Kincaid, Steve McHugh, Keith Vaughn III and Sam Vaughn.
