Mary Elizabeth Reynolds Buttrey, a resident of Nashville, passed away on Tuesday, November 5, 2024. She was predeceased by her parents (Morgan Boaz and Margaret Brugh Reynolds and step-father William C. “Dixie” Roberts) and her siblings Peggy Dudley, Morgan, Jr., and Susy Thombs. Surviving family members include her brother Brugh Reynolds (Brenda) and sister Elaine Harr (Michael), as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Born on December 18, 1952, Mary Elizabeth, also affectionately known as Liza, attended Overbrook Elementary School and Harpeth Hall School. Liza then matriculated to Salem College and subsequently graduated from Vanderbilt University with a degree in art history. During her time at Vanderbilt, she became a member of the Delta Delta Delta Sorority and was honored to be presented at their Eve of Janus Ball.
Upon completing her studies, Liza joined the Junior League of Nashville. Possessing a love for music, she worked for WLAC Radio, where she started her extensive 45 RPM record collection. She loved reading her Bible. Additionally, Liza enjoyed needlework, and created exquisite pillows and framed pieces that showcased her artistic talent. She also relished time spent with her nieces and nephews feeding the ducks in Centennial Park.
In her later years, Liza rekindled a connection with a friend from Vanderbilt, Dan Buttrey, also a resident of Nashville. They married and remained united for eight years until Dan's passing in 2022.
A Funeral Service for Liza will be held Monday, November 11, 2024 at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home, 660 Thompson Lane, Nashville, Tennessee 37204, at 2:30pm. Visitation will occur two hours prior to the service beginning at 12:30pm.
