Mary attended Sumner County schools, and upon graduation, moved to Nashville where she worked for the telephone company during World War II. Upon his return to Nashville from the war, she met her future husband, Holland Adkisson, whom she married in 1946.
Mary was a devoted wife and mother who enjoyed travel, gardening and flower arranging, and excelled in sewing and embroidery.
Mary was predeceased by her parents, Orville Thomas Brewer and Mamie E. Graves Brewer of Portland, TN; her husband of 53 years, Holland Clayton Adkisson, Sr.; her sister, Frances Brewer Hobdy of Portland, TN; and her son, Holland Clayton Adkisson, Jr. (“Dutch”); and his infant daughter, Mary Elizabeth Adkisson of Nashville.
She is survived by her children Kenneth C. Adkisson (and wife, Eleanor Craig) of Franklin, TN; Karen Fite, of Nashville, and Kay Lachowecki (and husband, A. J.) of Evansville, IN.; daughter-in-law Mary Lou Adkisson of Huntsville, AL; and grandchildren Carol Fite Lynn (and husband, Simon) of Nashville;
Clay Adkisson of Nashville; Sam Adkisson of Cambridge, MA; Max Lachowecki of Tampa, FL; Gracie Lachowecki of Louisville, KY; and one great-granddaughter, Holland Elizabeth Lynn, of Nashville.
Mary is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews throughout the country.
She will greatly be missed by her beloved terriers, Connor and Sam.
Gathering with the family will be held on Saturday, March 10, 2018 from eleven until one o’clock in the afternoon at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home, 660 Thompson Lane, Nashville.
Graveside service to follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park at one thirty in the afternoon.
