Marilyn B. Harbin, 96, of Brentwood TN entered eternity on July 23, 2022. Fifteen years ago she asked that these words be shared after her death: “I have now reached the final goal in my life… being in heaven with Jesus, my Lord and Savior, and being reunited with my wonderful, caring, thoughtful, loving husband, precious loved ones, and treasured friends.”
Born in New Albany, IN, she was a devoted daughter, sister, wife and mother who deeply loved her family. Her late husband, Dr. J. William Harbin, was a minister for over 50 years serving churches in Kentucky, South Carolina, Mississippi, and Tennessee. As a minister’s wife she actively supported her husband in every aspect of his ministry. She was a soloist, choir member, children’s music leader and Bible study teacher.
After her husband passed away, she became a member of Brentwood Baptist Church where she served as a children’s Bible study teacher and was a member of the senior adult choir.
She earned a bachelor of music degree from Southern Baptist Seminary in 1950 and in 1970 graduated from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville with a bachelor of science degree in education. For 14 years she was an elementary school teacher… first in Maryville, TN at Sam Houston Elementary and then at Franklin Elementary in Franklin, TN.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Adelaide Blanton; her husband in March 1996, and by her son Bill Harbin, Jr. in May 2022. Survivors include son Ben Harbin (Janet) of Brentwood, TN; daughter-in-law Julie Soh Harbin of Woodstock, GA and two step-grandsons, Vernon and Vincent Mui; and by her sister Elaine Turley, of Bradenton, FL.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Alive Hospice in Nashville TN for their insights and loving care, with special thanks to Remi. A private burial is planned at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Marilyn loved God and loved others and her desire for everyone reading this is that you do the same with all your heart.
