Lindsay was born on August 20th, 1981, the youngest daughter of four, to David and Leslie Weed in Nashville, Tennessee. From a young age, Lindsay loved to play sports with her siblings, especially softball. Lindsay grew up playing softball in school and on travel leagues where she showcased her incredible fast-pitch abilities. Lindsay was quiet, yet competitive. She was a team-player and loved to be on the field!
After graduating from Hillsboro High School in 2000, Lindsay attended the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. She continued her education at Lipscomb University where she received a Master of Arts in Special Education.
Lindsay began her teaching career as a special education teacher at Warner Elementary. Lindsay was driven by a passion to help others, especially children, which is a large part of why she chose to become a special education teacher. She cherished each and every one of her students. Lindsay had recently started classes to get a certification in dyslexia and she was planning to return to the classroom.
In August 2008, on Lindsay’s 27th birthday, she met her husband, Rusty Flaherty. Lindsay invited Rusty to her birthday party the following weekend and were inseparable from that moment on! Lindsay and Rusty married on August 6th, 2011, in Marina Del Rey, California. They lived in several cities as they built their life together - Hermosa Beach, CA, Leander, TX, and Nashville, TN.
Lindsay and Rusty have two beautiful children- Jace, 9 years old and Rylee, 7 years old. Jace was born in 2013 and Rylee in 2016. She was able to stay home with both of her kids, which was her greatest joy and most fulfilling job of all!
Watching UT games, jamming out to music, and going to the beach were some of Lindsay’s favorite things to do. Above all, she loved to spend quality time with her kids, family, and friends. Whether it be at a party or simply relaxing at home with everyone, she was just happy to be around everyone!
It would be wrong to say that Lindsay lost her battle to breast cancer, because she never stopped fighting! Lindsay never complained, never shed a single tear, never gave up. She stayed strong and determined. Through her, we know what perseverance and strength truly look like.
Lindsay will be forever remembered as a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend to all. Throughout her life, Lindsay was always sweet, gentle, kind, and patient. Although she was quiet, whenever she cracked a joke, it was sure to make everyone laugh! Her pure spirit and beautiful smile touched the lives of all who knew her.
Lindsay is survived by her husband, Rusty Flaherty and their two children, Jace and Rylee; her parents, David and Leslie Weed; her siblings David (and Erin) Weed, Libby (and Allen) BeCraft, and Jack Weed. She leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and friends. She is deeply missed by all.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to a fund for Jace and Rylee’s education, as this is what Lindsay would have wanted – to see her children succeed!
