He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years Charlotte Jo Pettigrew Brown, his parents Lee Roy Brown and Bonnie Kropff Brown of Newport, Tennessee, his brothers Jack Brown of Nashville and Frank Brown of Newport, TN.
He is survived by his son Dick Brown of Nashville, nephew Jack (Linda) Brown, granddaughters Maggie (Kevin) Crane and Nivah (John) Eckert, great grandchildren Nicholas Booher; Zeke, Luke and Hallie Eckert.
Leroy attended Jere Baxter Elementary School, Antioch High School and Father Ryan High School where he was on the football team coached by Leo Long. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1942 and served during World War II in the South Pacific as a corpsman seeing action in several major combat operations including Tarawa. He also served during the Korean War in medical and construction bases in the Philippines.
After military service, Leroy began a career in Nashville as a construction executive with The Murphy Company, T.W Frierson and the Nashville Stone Company during which it installed the stone siding on the iconic L&C Building. He later shifted to association management as Executive Director of Mechanical Contractors Assn. of Tennessee where he served in state and national leadership positions on work force development, building safety and contracting practices. He was active in government relations and also represented associations for TN Roofing Contractors and TN Utility Contractors.
Leroy had several civic involvements serving on Boards for the Plumber and Steamfitters Health and Retirement Funds and the League for the Hearing Impaired.
As a 70 year resident of Donelson, he was involved as a volunteer in the funding and building of the Donelson Presbyterian Church sanctuary and the Two Rivers football stadium. He designed home additions for many friends and family members. More recently he could be found many mornings with the McGavock McDonalds Gang and evenings being entertained in the Music Valley.
The family would like to express its love and gratitude to dear friends and caregivers Peggy Garton, Debbie Hilke and Barry Braden for their devoted skills and affection giving Leroy a long and deep quality of life.
There will be visitation at Woodlawn Memorial Park on Wednesday, January 22 from 5pm to 8pm Thursday January 23 at 11 am with a burial ceremony to follow. There will be a Memorial Celebration at Donelson Presbyterian Church on a future date to be announced, In lieu of flowers donations are welcome to Alive Hospice.
