Leo is survived by Children, Mary Anne Dooley of Chicago, IL, Ted Hampel of Clarksville, TN and Trish Conley of St. Louis, MO and Grandchildren, Ellen Dooley, Larry Dooley, Ben Dooley, Rachel Hampel Bracy Piech, Reagan Hampel, Chris Conley, Kevin Conley, Renessa Wanamaker West, Buddy Wanamaker, and 28 Great Grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by Wife, Mae Belle Black Hampel, Wife, Bernice Hinson Hampel, Son, Leo Thomas (“Tom”) Hampel and loving companion, Helen Lange.
Leo was born on 27 April 1916 in Bigelow, AR to Leo Hampel and Cora Crouch Hampel. He graduated from Little Rock (AR) Central High School and attended The University of Notre Dame, South Bend, IN. Leo retired from Exxon Mobil after 42 years employment and continued his passion for golf and bridge for the balance of his life. He was an active and dedicated member of St. Henry’s Catholic Church of Nashville for the last 40+ years. Of his numerous accomplishments Leo was especially proud of his appointment to the top post in Tennessee for Petroleum Matters, Director of West Nashville Kiwanis Club and President Junior Achievement Middle Tennessee. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Visitation will be held at St. Henry’s Catholic Church in Nashville on Wednesday, May 6 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. followed by Rosary at 7:00. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Henry’s Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 7 followed by a private family burial at Calvary Cemetery.
