Leigh was born in Nashville on March 13, 1957, to the late Rogers C. and Betty Oman Buntin. She graduated from Harpeth Hall School, from the University of Tennessee, and then went on to Boston College for her Master's Degree in Counseling. Leigh returned to Nashville and married Warren M. Johnson, Jr. in 1984. She became employed as a counselor at Koala Adolescent Center in Nashville.
After having her two children, Argie and Clay, Leigh became a devoted full-time mom and volunteered in many roles at Harding Academy. Leigh and Warren recently moved to Birmingham, Alabama where they could be closer to their grandchildren.
Leigh was also a devoted servant of the Lord, becoming involved in leading community Bible studies in Nashville and later in a senior leadership role in Birmingham. She is remembered fondly as a loyal friend and a good listener who always stood ready to help. She had a quick wit and was able to make anyone laugh. And she was a fiercely loving "Marm" to her children, her grandchildren, and their friends. She will always be remembered by her husband as the eternal champion in their numerous competitions over Scrabble, Jeopardy, and Balderdash, and on certain days, fishing. In the late rounds of her fight with cancer, she was a courageous warrior, an inspiration to all she knew, and especially her loving husband.
Leigh is survived by her loving husband of 38 years, Warren M. Johnson, Jr.; her daughter Argie Oman Johnson (Matthew) Campbell; her son Clay Caldwell (Brandy) Johnson; grandchildren Argie Virginia Campbell, Charlotte Grace Campbell, Milly Caroline Johnson, and Wells Robert Johnson; her brother Louie Martin Phillips Buntin and sister Frances Shelby Buntin.
