Lanson J Hyde passed away on Wednesday, August 24, 2022. He was born in Temple, Texas on July 6th, 1943 to Marion (Joyce) Hyde and Dr. Robert Hyde who was practicing Dentistry while serving in the Army in the Philippines.
Lanse graduated as valedictorian of the class from North Andover High School where he acquitted himself both academically and athletically as a runner. As a member of the track team, he held the school record for the 880-yard run, which stands today, and awakened in himself a nascent love of running which would become part of his DNA of the remainder of his years. Over time, he ran marathons in Boston, Washington D.C., New York, Huntsville, and Nashville; running in the Boston and Washington D.C. marathons over ten times each. His greatest joy was running two marathons with son Lanson. In all, Lanse completed 39 total marathons.
One of his greatest pleasures in life was meeting his running buddies at Percy Warner Park every Saturday morning at five am running from the park to Radnor Lake covering at least 15 or 16 miles.
Lanse attended Niagara University in Lewiston, New York with the goal of becoming a dentist following his father’s path in life. Realizing that dentistry would not be his life’s work, he left after one year. He later worked back in Andover Massachusetts at a clothing store, the Andover Shop which would become the model for a later business venture. He was a dapper dresser.
After a year’s hiatus he enrolled at Ithaca College in Ithaca, New York, where he graduated with a BA in English literature where he completed his thesis on William Faulkner, who was his mentor. Later he even named his basset hound “Faulkner.”
Lanse then attended Vanderbilt Law School for one year. His next endeavor was with the Minnie Pearl Fried Chicken Company. He later worked with Jack Anderson at Hospital Affiliates. Then he was a partner of the Oxford Shop, Nashville. He finally found great success based on his writing and communications skills with Corporate Communications Inc. His title was Senior Vice President and Partner in charge of investor relations and shareholder communications for healthcare companies.
Lanse met and married his loving wife, Misty. They spent the next 32 years of marriage traveling to their second home on Nantucket Island.
Lanse was predeceased by both parents and his sister Joanne and leaves behind his two children: Lanson (Pilar Marin) and their children Matthew Marin and John Lanson Hyde. His son Cabot (Helen Lee) and their children Mary Lee Hyde, Frances Carter Hyde, and Cabot Wardlaw Hyde Jr.
A celebration of life will be held at the Belle Meade Country Club on Wednesday, August 31st at 5pm.
