Cutchins DeMoss born November 22, 1925, Franklin, VA passed away peacefully on May 21, 2020 surrounded by family. She was the daughter of Clifford Armstrong Cutchins, Jr. And Sarah Vaughn Cutchins of Franklin, VA.
Preceded in death by her husband Edwin French DeMoss and brother, Clifford Armstrong Cutchins. Survived by sister Katherine Cutchins Billingham (Bill) Jamestown, NY, daughters Sarah Keith DeMoss Maxcy (Lee), Suzanne DeMoss Pendergrass and son Edwin French DeMoss, Jr. (Kim) all of Nashville, TN.
Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were a source of joy, happiness and pride. John Lee Maxcy, Jr. (Emily) and their three children Chappell Rose, John Rollins and Easley Gene all of Oxford, MS. Liza Maxcy Crosby (Evan) and their two children Hudson Keith and Lucy Elizabeth. Preston Malone Maxcy (Lindsey), and their son Jack. Steven Michael Pendergrass, all of Nashville, TN. Austin DeMoss Janaitis (Andy) and their son Jasper, Baltimore, MD and Edwin French DeMoss, III (Leslie) of Hollywood, FL as well as many nieces and nephews.
A 1947 graduate from Randolph-Macon Women’s College where she earned a BA degree and traveled to Nashville to work at Ward Belmont College where she met and married “Eddie” and had a long and full life devoted to her family, friends and community.
Spending time on the lake came first but was closely followed by her love of gardening and playing bridge. A member of the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America in Tennessee, The Order of the Crown in America, the Junior League of Nashville, Randolph-Macon Alumnae Association member, Kappa Delta sorority member (instrumental in starting the Vanderbilt chapter), Fannie Battle volunteer and longtime member of the Centennial Club. A member of Saint George’s Episcopal Church Keith served on the vestry, as president of the Women of the Church and as Chairman of the Inreach Committee. Her love of gardening led to her involvement as President of the Garden Club of Nashville, being awarded the Medal of Merit and the honor of being a flower judge from the Garden Club of America. In addition Keith served as the Lawn and Garden Chair, was a board member at Cheekwood, Travelers Rest and served as Regent of the board for the Ladies of the Hermitage Association and a member of the Camellia society. As president of the Horticultural Society of Middle Tennessee (HMST) she oversaw the move from the Sears building to Cheekwood.
The family would like to thank the staff at Burton Court for the kindness and care they provided over the past several years. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to The Endowment Fund for the Howe Garden at Cheekwood or HMST ( 1200 Forest Park Dr. Nashville, TN 37205) or the Employee Appreciation Fund at Blakeford Court (11 Burton Hills Nashville, TN 37215). There will be a private family service at a later date.
