Josephine Bell

Josephine Bell was born November 12, 1934, in Milan, TN to the late Vallie D. Bell and Della Frame Woodson. She transitioned into eternal life on December 2, 2023. She is preceded in death by her sons, Jerry (Marilyn) Bell and Wesley Bell; her sister, Shirley Woodson of Gibson County and grandchildren, Altonio Jones, Sr. and Latoya Bell.

Josephine was educated in Gibson County School System. She shared stories of working in the cotton fields, before becoming employed by Gibson County Schools as a cafeteria worker. Josephine moved to Nashville in 1969 and become employed at Vanderbilt Hospital. She retired after 28 years of dedicated service in the dietary department.

Josephine gave her life to Christ as a youth at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Milan, TN. She later became a member of Watson Grove Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor John R. Faison.

Josephine never met a stranger, many would leave calling her “Ma Bell”. She loved to cook and have her family around especially Holiday’s and cookouts. She loved listening to Gospel Music and Downhome Blues on her favorite radio station 1470 WVOL-AM and could find on any turn dial. She enjoyed a good party and dancing, even when her health failed you could catch her tapping her foot. She loved watching the Tennessee Titans so she could root, and yell is that “My Boy” King Henry! While wearing his jersey. She will always be remembered for her laugh, homemade biscuits, and quick comeback lines.

She leaves to cherish her memory devoted children; Tony Bell, Sherron Bell, Linda (Andre’) Love, Billy (Geraldine) Bell, John Bell, and Zachary (Angela) Jones all from Nashville, TN. She also leaves a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends who loved her dearly.

A gathering of family & friends for Josephine will be held Friday, December 8, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Watson Grove Baptist Church, 1415 DeFord Bailey Ave, Nashville, TN 37212. A celebration of life will occur Friday, December 8, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Watson Grove Baptist Church, 1415 DeFord Bailey Ave, Nashville, TN 37212. A committal service will occur Friday, December 8, 2023 at 1:00 PM at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 660 Thompson Ln, Nashville, TN 37204.
