Johnny Bryan Patterson Sr, 89, who resided in New Orleans, LA, for 58 years prior to making Nashville, Tennessee his home for the past 31 years, died peacefully on January 6, 2022, with his family by his side at his home in Spring Hill, Tennessee.
Johnny Patterson was born May 17, 1932, in New Orleans, LA to the late Alonzo C Patterson Sr and the late Lyda Elouise Patterson. He was married to Bette Jewel Goad and had 4 children. He later married Barbara Jean Hines on May 29, 1960, and was married for 61 years. Johnny and Barbara were blessed with 6 children. In 1989 he and Barbara relocated to Tennessee in order to be closer to several of his children who were living there at the time. Eventually all 10 of his children joined him in Tennessee further strengthening the loving bond he had with his entire family.
In 1950 at age 18, Johnny joined the Navy along with his best friend, Larry Federico. He served as a Radioman, aboard the Bon Homme Richard during the Korean War, where they traveled all over the South Pacific. His family loved hearing stories of his time in the Navy, especially some of his favorite tales which possibly were embellished just a bit! His gift for storytelling was enjoyed by everyone who knew him.
Johnny worked very hard for his family and instilled a strong work ethic in his children. He was a Licensed Master Plumber in several states with a specialty in HVAC & Heating and owned his own business in New Orleans, LA and Nashville, TN. Several of his sons were inspired to follow in his footsteps pursuing careers plumbing, HVAC and the construction industry.Years of expertise and his talent for construction led Johnny to later pursue a career in project management with Bovis Construction and BE&K. He retired in 2012 at the age of 80.
Johnny’s connection to church was very important to him. He attended First Assembly of God Church, New Orleans, LA from 1975 to 1989 and was involved in the Full Gospel Businessmen’s Association. Upon relocating to Nashville, he attended Christ Church, Nashville, TN from 1989 to present where he was a member of the Christ Church Choir. Being part of this wonderful group of people was the highlight of Johnny’s last few years.
Johnny is survived by 9 children and their spouses Michael Patterson, Shelley Wilcox, Tami Keith (Jeff), Ricky Patterson (Marian), Jimmy Patterson, Randy Patterson (Tracy), Larry Patterson and Bobby Patterson, Jeanne Lynn Basso (John); In addition, he is survived by his mother in law, Maxine Hines (101 years young) His brothers, Maurice Patterson and Joel Patterson, 27 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and friends. He is preceded in death by his son Johnny Bryan Patterson Jr, his grandsons, Cameron Patterson and Jess Patterson, his brother Alonzo “Pat” Patterson, Jr, his sister Elouise “Sister” Tassin.
Visitation will be on January 14, 2022 @ 1:00; Service @ 2:00 at Christ Church, Wallace Chapel, 15354 Old Hickory Blvd. Nashville, TN. Graveside will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Christ Church.
