John A. Wells III, age 77 of Nashville, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 16, 2017. He was preceded in death by his parents, John A. and Elizabeth Wells Jr. John, known as “Big John” to many, worked at the Ford Glass Plant for over 30 years. His humor and gentle soul was one of the many reasons why he was loved by so many.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Eileen Burns Wells of Nashville; son, John A. (Portia) Wells, IV of Nashville; daughter Mary Beth (Kevin) Hodge of Summit, KY; granddaughters Katie Pollard, Alyson Hodge, and Aubrey Hodge.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 - 8:00 pm on Wednesday, April 19 at Marshall Donnelly Combs Funeral Home, 201 25th Avenue, Nashville, TN 37203. A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 20 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 190 Graylynn Drive, Nashville, TN 37214. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers: John E. Burns, Joseph P. Burns, Michael W. Burns, Charles H. Keel, Stephen E. Oakley, Denny M. Dobbs, and Ricky Hill. Pallbearers: Stephen Keel, Patrick Oakley, Ray Tant, Joseph Burns, Jr., Jason Burns, Bryan Johnson, Luke Dobbs, Lane Dobbs, and Eric Scholer.
