John “JR” Roy Smith, 77 of Nashville, TN, passed with peace and grace on Friday, June 24, 2016. Memorial services are scheduled for 2:00 in the afternoon of July 12, 2016 at Forest Hills Baptist Church, 2101 Old Hickory Blvd., Nashville, TN 37215.
John was born on April 1, 1939 in Columbia, TN to Harold and Mildred Smith, their only child. John graduated from Hillsboro High School, where his friends called him Pete. He then went on to receive his Business Degree from Jackson Union University. Over the span of his business career, John was a sales manager at Kraft Foods, became a business administrator for a local church, and later owned his own home improvement business. He retired from an illustrious career in 2006.
John’s compassionate spirit was devoted to God, his family and friends. He enjoyed the game of golf, fishing and reading western novels by his favorite author Louis L’Amour. John also enjoyed many church activities as well as volunteering at American Red Cross and Room in the Inn.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
John is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Delores Smith, of 28 years; son Roy Smith of Alba, TX; daughter Jackie Carter and husband Steve of Carrollton, TX; stepson John Crites and wife Cherri of Coldspring, KY; grandchildren Michael Carter, Valerie Carter; step grandchildren Jaycie Crites, Wesley Crites, Sierra Crites, Michaela Stockwell, and Devon Filarski; great grandchild Ava Faith.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to American Red Cross or Room in the Inn.
