He is survived by son John (Stefanie), son Doug (Margarita) and grandchildren, Brad (Maegan), Katie, Paige (Jordan) Wilson and Justin (Alexandra) and numerous great-grandchildren.
John was born in Nashville on March 25, 1928. He was a graduate of Issac Litton High School and Tennessee Tech University where he majored in civil engineering. He served aboard the USS Iowa during the Korean War as a weatherman. Upon returning to Nashville he married the love of his life, Sue Elliott.
He began his career as an engineer with the Nashville Bridge Company drafting the structural plans for various types of bridges including many of the drawbridges along the Intercoastal Waterway in Florida. For over 40 years he was a member of the Crieve Hall Youth Athletic Association (CHYAA) baseball organization. First as a coach to his sons, then as a board member and then as a coach to his grandsons. He was also an avid bowler and fan of the UT Vols.
A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held from five until seven in the evening on Sunday, October 4, 2020 at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home. A Graveside Service will be held at ten o'clock in the morning on Monday, October 5, 2020 at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
