John "Jack" R. Burch

NASHVILLE - John R. Burch (Jack) went to heaven on November 9, 2021 at the age of 90. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roland and Nell Burch, grandson Robert G. Burch, and daughter, Elisabeth Burch Taron. He is survived by loving wife, Linda, whom he travelled the world with, son, John R. Burch, Jr. (Piper), grandchildren John R. Burch, III (Tracy), Melanie Burch, Emma Taron, Hampton Taron, stepchildren, Brandon Childs (Joni), Kasey Harper (David), Jennifer Merimonti (Steve), step grandchildren, Lucy and Beau Childs, Payton and Dawson Harper, and Erin and Megan Merimonti.

Jack’s parents moved to Nashville from Indianapolis in 1946 because Jack’s father wanted him to grow up to be a southern gentleman. He graduated from Montgomery Bell Academy with honors in 1949 and Vanderbilt University in 1953, where he was a member of Sigma Chi social fraternity and Omicron Delta Kappa honorary fraternity. Jack served as captain of the varsity track team and lettered all three of his undergraduate years. He spent his business career as President and owner of Motorent, Inc., the statewide franchisee of Avis Rent A Car.

Jack was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church, where he served as an Elder, Belle Meade Country Club, and a former member of Young President’s Organization, where he served as President of the Rebel Chapter.

He loved God, his family, Vanderbilt, and the Tennessee Titans. He was an incredible husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many. Loving appreciation to his caregivers, Mary, Susan, Ina, Martha, and Denese.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, November 23 at 3:00PM at First Presbyterian Church in Stanford Chapel. The family will receive friends between 1:30PM – 3:00PM in the Cheek House.
