Joe B. Smiley

Joseph “Joe” Smiley was born on September 10, 1936, and departed this life on February 7, 2022, at the age of 85. Joe loved sprint car racing and was instrumental in the NMMA and being crew chief on numerous cars including Nathaniel Law, Don Neuenschwander, Herb Jones, and his daughter, LaRae Smiley-Sliger. Joe, his late wife Brenda, and LaRae traveled the country racing and officiating various events. He helped countless others over the years and was always there to help. He also loved TN State Parks, especially Port Royal State Park. He loved nature and making the park better for visitors to come and enjoy it. Joe married Frances Moore on May 1, 2010. After he retired, he enjoyed staying home with his wife Frances and tinkering around the house.

He is survived by his wife Frances Smiley, daughter LaRae Smiley-Sliger (Daniel), son Kirk Smiley (Kelly Beech), daughter Deborah Simmons (Michael), stepchildren Kathy Jackson, Harlan Embry, and Bill Moore (Carrie). Grandchildren Savannah Sneed (Clayton) and Andy Smiley(Kendall), and Jeffrey Smiley. Great-grandchild Easton Sneed. He was preceded in death by his parents Connie and Arlene Smiley, his wife Brenda Smiley, his son Mike Smiley and his daughter Angela Renee Smiley.

A gathering of family & friends for Joe will be held Friday, February 11, 2022 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 660 Thompson Ln, Nashville, Tennessee 37204. A a gathering of family & friends will occur Saturday, February 12, 2022 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM. A funeral service will occur Saturday, February 12, 2022 at 1:00 PM, 660 Thompson Ln, Nashville, Tennessee 37204.
