Joe Edward Dixon, Sr. age 87 was born on March 28, 1930 and passed away on August 9, 2017. Preceded in death by his parents, Franklin Pierce and Velma Lois Dixon; wife, Ruth O’Kain Dixon; daughter Stephanie Ruth Dixon; son, George Bryan Dixon and granddaughter Eleanor Kay Dixon. Survived by wife Patricia (Pat) Dixon; sons, Joe Edward Dixon, Jr., Robert Scott Dixon; granddaughters Erin Dixon and Emily Carroll; great-grandchildren, Gabriel, Tristan, and Harper Carroll; stepchildren, Bonnie Haner, Becky Mathis and Bill Ellis. Mr. Dixon grew up in Lafayette, Tennessee. He then attended high school at Morgan Preparatory School in Petersburg, Tennessee. He attended college at Vanderbilt University, graduating in 1951. While at Vanderbilt he was a member of Phi Kappa Psi fraternity. He later became a member of Belmont United Methodist Church in Nashville. Mr. Dixon spent his working years in Nashville. After graduating from Vanderbilt, he went into business as a construction contractor. He then spent a career at the U.S. Government Federal Housing Administration and Small Business Administration. He retired to Las Vegas, Nevada, where he lived for many years. Mr. Dixon was loved by his family, being a wonderful husband and a good father. He will be missed. Celebration of Life Service will be on Monday, August 14, 2017 at one o’clock in the afternoon, with a gathering of family and friends from eleven o’clock in the morning until the service time on Monday at Woodlawn Roesch-Patton funeral home.
