Born in Louisville, KY on April 6, 1933, our mother attended St. Aloysius School and Mercy High School. She married Thomas E. Edelen on Sept 6, 1952. In 1955, Western Electric transferred our father to Nashville, TN. He had a house built on Hibbitts Road in Donelson on an Army loan where they lived their entire married lives, almost 45 years.
Mom and Dad were founding parishioners of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Donelson and sent their 3 children to Holy Rosary Academy. Mom served on the Ladies Auxiliary and donated countless ceramic pieces to the church for the Fall Festival. She loved the arts. Ceramics were her medium.
She was a good and longtime friend to her “gang” from high school, to the Powell, Hobbs and Blackwell families, a loving daughter, sister, niece, aunt, a wonderful mother, grandmother, great grandmother and devoted wife.
She is preceded in death by her parents Anna Mae and Austin Bowman, her Aunt Rosella Smith, her Uncle Henry Smith, her sister and brother, Dorothy Sauer and Gene Bowman and her husband, Thomas E Edelen. She is survived by three children: Suzanne Patterson, Dennis Edelen (Cheryl) and Sherri Simpson (Thomas), three grandchildren: Shane Patterson (Mendi), Crystal Green and Samuel Edelen, and 7 great grand children: Chloe, Grant, EllaGrace, Jasmine, Skylar, Toni and Ezekiel.
A Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 11, 2019 from 5-8pm at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, with a rosary at 7pm, and again from 10am to 11am on Friday, July 12, 2019. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, July 12, 2019 at 11am at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Donelson. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery on Thompson Lane.
The family wishes to thank the staff at NHC Cool Springs and Caris Hospice for the love and care they gave our mother.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association, Holy Rosary Catholic Church or Holy Rosary Academy.
