Joan Rose Burgess, our beloved daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, cousin and friend, suffered an accidental death on February 1, 2012 at the age of 18. Joan was born on February 14, 1993 at The Farm in Hohenwald, Tennessee. In her early childhood and middle school she enjoyed playing basketball. She cheered on the varsity squad at Fairview High School and most recently was enrolled as a freshman at Columbia State University.
She is survived by parents Sam and Carol Burgess, her sister Amy Burgess, her niece Calli and newborn nephew Mason, Grandparents Buenah and John Combs, Grandmother June Burgess, Aunt and Uncle Debbie and Wayne Bell and cousin David;
Uncle and Aunt James and Jeray Burgess and cousins Chandler and Jordan. A private memorial service to celebrate Joan’s life was held Saturday, February 4th.
In Joan’s memory, the family is asking that donations be made to a National Anti-Bullying organization called the Megan Meier Foundation. This organization is committed to educating children, teens, educators and families about the dangerous effects of bullying to others in your school, community and online.
