Jay was born on November 27, 1933 in Chicago, IL, the son of Jay E. Jacobs, Sr. and Lillian Friend Jacobs. He married Mary Holloway on June 17, 1961 in Louisville, KY. They spent 59 wonderful years together, and Mary passed away just 14 hours before Jay.
Surviving are his daughters, Julie Jacobs, Joni (Randy) Russell, and Jan Claiborne; grandchildren, Kristi, Jake and Matthew Russell, and Katie and Ben Claiborne; and brother, Kenn Jacobs.
Preceding him in death are his parents; and brother, Dick Jacobs.
Jay was a graduate of New Trier High School in Winnetka, IL and Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN. Jay retired from Tennessee Electric Motor and was a dedicated poll worker for the Davidson County Board of Elections.
Devoted to his faith, Jay was a long-time member of St. Edward Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus St. Edward Council #9586 and the Divine Mercy Assembly #2936, and he was the recipient of the Knights of Columbus Lifetime Achievement Award.
A very proud dad and papa, Jay loved attending his grandchildren’s events and activities. He enjoyed traveling, crossword puzzles, and taste testing Mary’s fresh baked cookies and cakes.
A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held on Sunday, October 25, 2020 at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home from one o’clock in the afternoon until six o’clock in the evening, and on Monday, October 26, 2020 at St. Edward Catholic Church from ten o’clock to eleven o’clock in the morning. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at eleven o’clock on Monday at St. Edward Catholic Church. Burial with military honors will be at Middle Tennessee State Veteran’s Cemetery on Tuesday, October 27, 2020 at nine o’clock in the morning.
