What a humble, gentle man. You are thought of so often. You don't need to do anything special to get you wings. Your whole life earned those wings. Even though we all weren't together as often as we would have liked just knowing you were on this side of Heaven was a comfort.

Excerpts from Great Memories of a Great Friend
In Sept’75, the Lord blessed me with the opportunity to begin my teaching tenure at David Lipscomb College. Little did I know, at that time that the caretaker of books in Crisman Memorial Library would become and remain a dear friend of mine for the next 47 good years…Our bond of friendship was strong, very strong. We attended many Bison games in Allen Arena (AA), many times he was with our mutual friend/brother, Clinton “Clint” Toy…
The day that Beaman Library was officially dedicated/opened was a very big day in the professional life of the beloved librarian from Arkansas. It was in October 1991, a century after the vision of the two co-founders was brought to fruition. Vision brought to fruition!
Jim’s accolades are many. He was a longtime member of national, state, and local organizations, even holding leadership positions in and receiving awards from several of them…When he retired in 1998 from Lipscomb, he had served the school for more than thirty years.
He taught the Bible at the Granny White congregation and also served as an elder for many years, and later was the treasurer…Of all the employees, I knew at Lipscomb, Jim Ward was absolutely the most diligent in keeping his body fit.
When our daughter was hired at Lipscomb University in 2014 as the special librarian and archivist, Jim was so happy, so thrilled. He said to me, “I wish I had had the opportunity to work with someone like her.” He was a fan of young people succeeding, and most especially in the field of library science. 
As mutual members of the Gran-Timers at the church of Christ in Green Hills, we enjoyed gatherings for good food and fellowship… those precious memories … will live on and on. He will be greatly missed, but not forgotten. Such wonderful memories are simply “roses in December.” Roses that will never fade. Thanks for the memories, Jim- brother, colleague, and friend.

Dr. Ward was always so kind to me and my family. I worked as a student worker in the library at DLC and he always stopped to chat. My mother worked with him for many years at Lipscomb and my father did some remodeling work on the Ward home. They both spoke warmly of him and cherished his friendship. My deepest sympathy and thoughts to you in this time of loss. Celebrate his wonderful, long life and cherish the memories.

Dear Friends,
Ed and I sat near Jim at The Church of Christ in Green Hills. We always looked for him. We began a friendship when we walked alongside a friend Juanita.  He visited her at a nursing home and we would compare stories. 
We went to Janice Christian's camp with Grantimers. We decided to walk her long driveway and shared a precious day he encouraged me to keep exercising.  We loved him dearly.

Your Mom and Dad were always so nice to me as a teenager...and it was so special years later when I moved back to Nashville...having them as Neighbors on Rosemont.  I'm so sorry that their Tudor and our Bungalow is all gone now, but we have great memories of a beautiful street with nice lawns of shrubs and flowers grown through the years.

Enjoyed all my time working with the Ward family.  Thankful for the snowy morning that Betty and Jim invited our family to breakfast!

Brad and David, the Nance family loved your dad and mom so much!  They were both wonderful, kind, gentle Christian people with loads of talent.  Your dad will be missed by a lot of people here at Lipscomb.  Prayers for your family this week.

We are very sorry to hear of the passing of Jim.  He was such a good man and a good friend.  I remember his first year at Lipscomb when he was coaching the college cross county team.   Over the years our friendship has grown and we will miss him.

You can only say how Mr.Ward impacted your life and I will say in a world full of meaness Mr. Ward was truly a kind soul. So humble and young at heart. Special people like that don't come along like that everyday. I enjoyed working with him and he could work rings around folks not even half his age. He will be greatly missed.....bless him.

Dr. Ward, I truly don't know how I would have made it without you. You were so organized and detailed in helping us with the record keeping at Woodlawn and Mt. Olivet.  More than that you were so kind and such a good friend.  You are loved and will be missed. Until we meet again.
