Sam graduated from Hume Fogg High School and went on to build a diverse career. His professional journey took him through various fields, including videography, mechanics, and as a CDL Instructor. Additionally, he dedicated much of his time to serving the community through the Bus Ministry for Inner City Ministry in Nashville.
On October 21st, 1989, Sam married Betsy E. Thompson in Nashville, and together they shared a deep and loving bond. Sam’s passions were as varied as his career, with a love for trains, planes, and automobiles that was matched only by his enthusiasm for family, Ham radio, and travel.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Betsy E. Thompson; children, Darla D. Miller (Thomas); Elaine Kruppa (Rick); Jeff Chinander (Kelly); and Donnie Chinander (Jennifer); grandchildren, Ashley Nicole Ufen (Brad); John Hurt III (Kimberly); Kevin Hurt (Jackie); Dillion Kruppa (Shelby Parton); Jacob Chinander; Amber Chinander; Kathyrn Chinander; Luke Chinander; great grandchildren, Kate Ufen; Hunter James Ufen; Logan Scott Ufen; Elizabeth Washburn; Cameron Douglas; Mila Hurt; Ian Hurt; and Sophia Hurt; and brother, Daniel Jesse Thompson.
Sam is preceded in death by his parents, James Daniel Thompson and Rebekah Amelia Thompson; his son, James Scott Thompson; and siblings, Joseph William Thompson and Karen Jean Holdenfield.
A Gathering of Family and Friends will take place on Friday, September 13th, 2024 from 12:00pm to 2:30pm at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 660 Thompson Ln., Nashville, Tennessee 37204. A Celebration of Life Service will begin at 2:30pm on September 13th following visitation.
