James Ausban Kearley, age 94 of Nashville. He was born December 4, 1918 in Powderly (Jefferson County), Alabama. He retired in 1982, as Vice-President of Life and Casualty Insurance (now American General) after 42 years of service. As a member of the "Greatest Generation", he served his country in both WWII and the Korean conflict. He was awarded the Bronze Star for his action in the battle to retake the city of Forbach, France. He was a member of Hillwood Presbyterian Church, serving as Elder. He enjoyed golf, having several holes-in-one and receiving numerous awards. He is preceded in death by parents, John Ausban and Susie Frances (Harper) Kearley; sister, Cleo Britton and brothers, Joseph Kearley and Cecil Kearley, all of Talladega, AL. He is preceded in death by his wife of 76 years, Realta Barnes Kearley. He is survived by daughter, Joan C. Drane; son, James Allen Kearley; grandchildren, Tina Sharp and Jim Drane of Nashville, Wendy Plessinger of Columbia, SC, Christine Jernigan of Chapel Hill, NC; four great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. The funeral service will be held at eleven thirty in the morning on Thursday, the 24th of October, 2013 in Woodlawn's Dignity Hall, with visitation held from ten in the morning until service time. Entombment to follow in Woodlawn Cross Mausoleum. In lieu of floral tributes, contributions may be made to the Hillwood Presbyterian Church or the charity of your choice .
