James William Gambill passed away December 2, 2017. He was born in Akron, Ohio February 17, 1924. James graduated from East High School and was drafted in the Army Air Force two weeks after graduation. He married his sweetheart from the 8th grade Margaret Taylor while in the service. After the service he worked at American Battery Co. Nashville, TN, learning the business from top to bottom. James moved the family to Birmingham, AL in 1952 as a partner in New Life Battery Co. Later he became owner and changed the name to Gambill Electric Battery Co. In 1965 he moved the family back home to Nashville and re-established Gambill Electric Battery Co. In 1968 he opened his hobby of numismatics as an addition to his tire and battery business, and later in 1974 changing it to a new career as The Coin Purse. However, his real passion was preaching which he did for over 55 years. He turned the coin business over to his youngest son, Michael so he could focus on full-time ministry. He retired in 2015 from Cedarmont Church of Christ in Franklin. Over his preaching career, he helped establish congregations of the church of Christ on Shades Mountain in Birmingham, and the Hoover Church of Christ in Hoover, AL and worked with several congregations in the Nashville area. James was a member of Birmingham Coin Club, and Nashville Coin Club. He is survived by his loving wife of 73 years Margaret Elizabeth Taylor Gambill. Children: Ron (Reida) Gambill, Sharon (Joe) Reed, and Michael (Patti) Gambill. Grandchildren: James (Brittany) Gambill, Allison (Heath) Grisso, Ashley (Chris) Woronka, Abby Gambill, Ben Williamson, Amy (Tristan) Zerner, Sara (Brian) Hambrick,Seth (Tori) Williamson. He has twelve great grandchildren. Preceded in death by: Parents John William Gambill and Ida Marie Frances Gambill, and sisters Eulalie Hamilton, and Elsie Marie Perry. Visitation Tuesday December 5, 2017 from eleven thirty in the morning until one o'clock in the afternoon at Woodlawn Roesch-Patton Funeral Home. Funeral will begin at one o'clock in the afternoon in Woodlawn's Dignity Hall. Burial following at Woodlawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers: J. Gambill, Ben Williamson, Heath Grisso, Seth Williamson, Brian Hambrick, Chris Woronka, and Tristan Zerner.
