Jim Coode passed away on August 4, 2021. He was born in Nashville on June 26, 1943 to Charles and Marie McCarthy Coode. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Namie Horiuchi, his children James, Billy, Marie and Diane, his grandson TJ and his siblings, Marie ‘Macky’ Boyd, Helen (Jim) Walker, Don Coode, Sharon (Rod) Connor, and Larry (Terri) Coode and his sister-in-law Bernie Coode and a plethora of nephews, nieces and extended family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Charles ‘Skippy’ Coode and Jesse ‘Bubba’ Coode, his brother-in law Bob (Macky) Boyd and his sisters-in-law Nancy (Bubba) Coode and Carol (Don) Coode.
Jim served 26 years in the Air Force before retiring home to Nashville. He worked for the Catholic Diocese at St Mary’s Villa and Loaves and Fishes and was a volunteer at Room-in-the-Inn, both at the downtown campus and coordinating the program at Cathedral. He loved sports, especially football and baseball, and spent time while serving being an umpire and referee for sports of all levels. Hobbies included rooting for his beloved Commodores, contra dancing, travelling (especially with his grandson) and taking the road less travelled when returning home from road trips.
Visitation will be Monday, August 9 from 4-7 at the Marshall Donnelly Combs funeral home. Funeral mass will be held Tuesday, August 10 at 2pm at Cathedral of the Incarnation
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Room in the Inn, Loaves and Fishes or Second Harvest Food Bank.
