On March 8, 2016, at the gates of heaven Howard Elroy Bowman stood and said it’s my turn let me in. Mr. Bowman was born in Knox County, Illinois on May 16, 1931, the son of the late Leonard Elroy Bowman and Icle Marie McBeth Bowman. He served in the Army Air Corps and the United States Air Force for over twenty-three years. Mr. Bowman served our country during the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War. In addition to his parents, Mr. Bowman was preceded in death by a brother, John Bowman. After retirement from the Air Force he became a Tennessee State Trooper and on the route from Nashville to Chattanooga, Mount Eagle, Howard protected the citizens of Tennessee. He frequently said, “I never wrote a ticket to old people or cripples; a man has to be a man about his job.” These last few years he spent living in Texas with his wife. Survivors include his wife, Genevieve Marie Bowman; four sons, Howard (Janet) Bowman, Michael (Robin) Bowman, Gregory (Kathy) Bowman, Glen (Alice) Bowman; five granddaughters, Brooke Bowman, Lindsey (Todd) Ekstrand, Laura Bowman, Amy Bowman, and Mikalah Bowman; three grandsons, Jesse Bowman, Hunter Bowman, and Carter Bowman; sister, Shirley Thorne; a niece, Valerie Thorne; and a nephew, Rodney Thorne. A Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday, March 15, 2016, at four thirty in the afternoon, Woodlawn’s Dignity Hall. Interment Service will be held Wednesday at ten o’clock, Middle Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery. Gathering of Family & Friends will be held Tuesday from two thirty until the funeral hour at Woodlawn Roesch-Patton Funeral Home.
