Hilda Louise Pruett, 91 years old, of Nashville, Tennessee, passed away Tuesday, September 19, 2023, in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Hilda was born to the late Russell and Sadie Brecheen in Nashville, Tennessee on August 2, 1932.
Hilda graduated from Central High School in Nashville, TN where she played on the basketball team. She married James Pruett Jr. on June 2, 1952, in Nashville at the 12th Avenue Church of Christ. She retired from Life and Casualty Insurance Company after a full career with them.
Hilda Pruett poured herself into everything she did, whether being a great wife, plugging into her children’s activities and lives; supporting them every step of the way, caring for and loving her grandchildren, or cheering on her favorite teams. She was one of the best cooks you will ever meet. Her minute steak and mashed potatoes were unbelievable. If you were with her, she was taking care of you. It only stands to reason that in her later days, as she had to have others care for her, she was so gracious and kind to everyone she came in contact with. She was kind, loving, generous, and passionate about the people and things she loved. She loved bowling and watching sports including baseball, basketball, football, and hockey. She was an fan of the San Antonio Spurs, the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Tennessee Titans and the Nashville Predators. She watched her teams play every chance she got. She was a member of Vultee Church of Christ. She was also a long-time member of the Nashville Women’s Bowling Association, bowling in league play for the majority of her adult life, serving in a number of leadership roles, and was a 2008 inductee into the Nashville WBA Hall of Fame.
Hilda is survived by her husband of 71 years, James Pruett Jr.; son, Brian Pruett; daughter, Trudy Hampton (Charles); grandchildren: Sadie Katie Hampton, Gracie Hampton, and Thomas Hampton (Grace).
Other than her parents she is preceded in death by her brother, Russell Brecheen Jr.
We cannot thank the staff of Creekside at Three Rivers enough for the care they gave Mother over the last year. As hard as it was to turn her care over to someone else, we couldn’t have been more blessed to have these wonderful people in her life. She is loved and will be greatly missed, but she is now sitting with her Lord Jesus Christ and her parents with no more pain or suffering. We look forward to seeing her there one day, but for the time being, we mourn our loss of her. She leaves an empty space behind that cannot be filled this side of heaven.
A graveside service for Hilda will be held Saturday, September 23, 2023, from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 660 Thompson Ln, Nashville, TN 37204.
