Gwendolyn Victoria Patton Lucas was born in Nashville, Tennessee on November 7, 1949, as the eldest child to the late Minerva Cheairs Patton Crite and John Nicholas Patton Sr and Jerry William Crite. She was raised in the historical neighborhood of "Hard Bargain" in Franklin, Tennessee. Gwen attended the Franklin City and Williamson County Schools where she excelled academically as well as played basketball and was a cheerleader. She later graduated in 1967 from Hillsboro High School in Nashville, Tennessee as one of the first Blacks in the history of that school.
She accepted Jesus as her Savior at a young age and was baptized at Green Street Church of God in Franklin, Tennessee under the leadership of Bishop Henry C. Nesbitt, Sr.
Gwen was employed at Blue Cross/ Blue Shield for years and later at Cigna Health Medicare before retiring.
Gwen was married to Eural Lee Lucas on October 28, 1966. They were married for over 43 years before he preceded her in death on November 3, 2009. They served together for several years as Deacon and Deaconess (Mother) at Clayborne Tabernacle Baptist Church Franklin, Tennessee. Later serving at Grace Baptist Church where she continued teaching Sunday School, participating in the Senior adult group and in recent years went on two mission trips. She loved her family and wanted all of them to be saved. She was a Missionary in her everyday life showing a kind, loving and giving spirit to everyone. She also loved to travel and recently was able to go on her much-awaited Alaskan cruise with both of her sweet daughters.
Gwen will always be remembered and cherished by her two devoted daughters Wanda Juzelle Lucas and Euraleta (Joseph) White. She was "NANA" to two grandsons Johnathon Lee Lucas and Joseph William Davis White and "G-NANA" to one great-grandson Langston Lee Lucas. Three sisters: Eleanor Annette Patton, Johnnie Patton Hamilton and Lola Virginia Bonds; Three brothers: John Nicholas Patton III, Kenneth Lee (Connie) Patton and Jeffrey Steven (Tracii) Patton; Brother-In-Law: Uel (Brenda) Lucas; Uncle: William Charles (Fannie Belle) Patton; Aunt: Patricia Patton Scruggs. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Special family friends Laura Peterson, Brittany Vance, Destiny Hill and Mrs. Ethel Brooks. Special friends the Joy Sunday School Class and the entire Grace Baptist Church.
Gathering of Family and Friends will be on Wednesday, October 18, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home & Memorial Park, Nashville, TN 37204. Gathering of Family and Friends will also be held on Thursday, October 19, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at, Grace Baptist Church of Nashville, 1510 Old Hickory Blvd, Nashville, TN 37207. Following Visitation a Celebration of Life will begin at 12:00pm.
