Greg Slonecker

Greg was born March 5th, 1963 and passed away suddenly on September 1st, 2016. He was the beloved son of Dr. William T. Slonecker and Betty Jewell Slonecker. Family who will miss him along with his parents; sister, Susan Lyn Slonecker; brother, Christopher (Meredith) Slonecker; nephews, Jack and Andrew Slonecker; nieces, Mary Grace, Caroline, and Anna Claire Slonecker; uncle, Walter (Bernice) Jewell Jr.; and aunt Julie Slonecker. Greg was employed as senior project manager at United Health Group - Optum Technology. Prior to this, he worked at Cigna Health Springs, Active Network, Hewlett Packard, International Scholarship and Tuition Services, and Morgan Stanley Smith Barney. He was a student at Franklin Road Academy, and graduated from Vanderbilt University completing his last year in Regensburg, Germany. His course of study was Germanistik and Economics. He received his MBA at Emory University, and loved to travel internationally and was fluent in many languages and cultures. He attended West End Methodist Church. Services will be Monday, September 5, 2016 at 1:00 pm in the chapel of Mount Olivet Funeral Home with Rev. Chris Allen officiating. Interment will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery with John Boggan, Bill Clay, Walter Jewell, Jim Kingsbury, Daryl Murray, Richard Pratt, Michael Sharpe, and Jack Slonecker serving as pallbearers. Visitation with the family will be from 11:00 am until time of service. In lieu of flowers, the Greg Slonecker Scholarship to assist Vanderbilt students in future German studies has been established.
