Glen D. Moore, December 27, 1934-February 3, 2020. Born to Joseph Jackson and Mamie Rushing Moore in Elba, Alabama. Glen was the youngest of 11 children (8 sisters, 2 brothers). He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Elaine, and three sons and their wives and 10 grandchildren: Perry (Dawn) and their children Alex and Jacen; Neely (Katy) and their children Elliot, Lincoln, Erica, and Emmaclaire; Paul (Catherine) and their children Stewart, Joseph, Caroline, and Mary Elizabeth. One sister, Jeanne Weaver of Hoover, Alabama, also survives him. Glen was a graduate of Elba High School, Freed-Hardeman College, Harding College, and Middle Tennessee State University with a master’s degree.
Glen taught high school mathematics in the Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools for 25 years. He started his career at Isaac Litton High School and ended at Hillsboro High School. He frequently took students to the Tennessee State Math Teachers annual competition, where they placed highly. He was also an appliance salesman at Famous State Sales and H. H. Gregg.
Glen was a member of Crieve Hall Church of Christ since 1961, where he served as a deacon for over 50 years, responsible for educational programs, including helping to start the kindergarten and overseeing Vacation Bible School for 20 years. Glen loved the church and regularly studied the Bible. Until his health began to fail, he rarely missed a service.
Everywhere Glen went he ran into former students and customers, and he possessed an amazing recall of names and details about them.
A high school and college athlete, he loved following Vanderbilt and Alabama sports. But he was the greatest fan of his grandchildren. They were a source of great pride for him, and he was very pleased with all of them.
A gathering of friends and family will be held at Woodlawn Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 5 from 4-8 PM. A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, February 6, at 11 AM with visitation one hour prior, and will be conducted by Bill Watkins at Crieve Hall Church of Christ. Burial will follow the service at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
