Gerald Lynn (Jerry) Robinson, loving husband, father of three, and Gramps to ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, passed away December 15, 2020 at the age of 84. Born on February 25, 1936 in St. Louis, Missouri to Karl and Rose (Berndsen) Robinson, his grade school years were spent in 7 different states before his family settled in Nashville. He attended Christ the King in 8th grade followed by his high school years at Father Ryan where he graduated in 1954. He attended college at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and graduated in 1958. While at UT, in 1957, he met Carolyn Cooper of Chattanooga.
They were married on June 24, 1961. Together they raised three children, Jeff, Mark, and Lyn. His work years were spent in the family business, Karl’s Fashion Footwear. Karl’s had numerous locations throughout Nashville to include locations in Rich Schwartz, McClure's, and Petway Reavis as well as in the cities of Memphis, Tennessee, Jackson, Mississippi, and Houston, Texas. To his friends he was known as the “Shoe-Coon.” Jerry was an avid golfer and since 1963 was a member of Hillwood Country Club where he enjoyed countless rounds of golf and many memorable days in the Men's Grill with lifelong friends. He was fun-loving and quick-witted, with a good dose of sarcasm. Jerry loved music, and he was a lifelong fan of UT football & the St. Louis Cardinals. After retirement, Jerry enjoyed spending time perfecting his wood working skills, and he gave countless hours to caring for his grandchildren.
Jerry was preceded in death by his father, Karl, and his mother, Rose. He is survived by his wife Carolyn; his children, Jeff (Sherri), Mark (Jeanne), Lyn Jellison (Jim); his sister Carol Duncan (Gary); his grandchildren, Taylor Dahl (Cody), Joseph (Sara), & John Dewey, Brooks (Lindsey), Hayley Shovlin (Barry), Grace, Quinn, Reed, & Rosemary, Golden Jellison, niece Jen and nephew Tim: as well as his two great grandchildren, Luke & James Shovlin.
Arrangements entrusted to Marshall-Donnelly-Combs. Visitation will be Sunday, December 20th from 3 to 5 pm at Marshall-Donnelly-Combs Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 21st at 9 o’clock at St. Mary’s of the Seven Sorrows, followed by an 11 o’clock graveside service at Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens. Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Father Ryan, or any charity of your choice in his memory. There will be a Celebration of Life at a later date on the 18th green at Hillwood Country Club.
