Anne was born on June 5, 1947 in Chattanooga, Tennessee, a daughter of the late George Pierce Morris & Doris Holt Morris.
As a child, Anne was precocious and very close to her brother George Jr. and her sister Linda.
Anne was a graduate of Hillwood High School in west Nashville, Tennessee. She was voted Most Attractive Girl (Sr. class, '65)) and was a Homecoming Court Attendant. Anne was also the Clinic Bowl Princess in 1964.
Anne attended the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. (Art major, member of Kappa Delta Sorority and a Lambda Chi Alpha "Little Sister") While a student there, she met and married Mark Hays III (Chattanooga). Together, they had three sons. Anne was much loved by the Hays family, and in particular her father-in-law Mark Jr., and Grand-father-in-law Mark Sr., who were devoted to Anne and her children. Anne also remained particularly close to her sister Linda and her mother Doris as well, relationships which were marked by stalwart love and shared devotion.
Anne worked in Nashville as a production manager at advertising agency Metcalf Cook & Smith and later at January & Associates. Anne often spent time at her sister and brother-in-law's farm in Columbia, Tennessee where she, her nephews and nieces and her children enjoyed horseback riding, cook outs and family gatherings. Anne raised and loved uniquely all three of her boys.
In June of 1988, Anne married the love of her life, Frank "Scotty" Harris. Together they enjoyed many activities, including horse back riding, fox hunting, and attending the Iroquois Steeplechase races yearly at Percy Warner Park in Nashville. Later they fulfilled their dream, moving to a picturesque farm in Lynnville, Tennessee where they tended horses and cattle and enjoyed the unique beauty of middle Tennessee fox hunt country. Anne was a long time Subscriber and Friend of the Hillsboro Hounds.
After Scotty passed away in April of 2017, Anne moved to Pawleys Island, South Carolina where she remained until her death.
Anne will be remembered for her beauty, her kindness, her often stern attention to detail, reliability, consistency, and both the love she gave, especially to her children, and the love bestowed on her by so many who had the privilege of knowing her.
Anne was a member of St. George's Episcopal Church in Nashville from 1973 until her death.
Besides her parents, George & Doris, she is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Frank "Scotty" Harris; brother, George "Buster" Morris, Jr.; and nephews, John Neal Jr. and Clay Neal.
She is survived by her sons, Mark Hays (Sarah), of Tucson, Arizona; John Hays (Ginny), of Tallahassee, Florida; and David Hays (Robin) of Pawleys Island, South Carolina; by her grandchildren, William Hays, of Atlanta, Georgia; Julian Hays, of Columbia, South Carolina; and Noah Hays, of Tallahassee, Florida; by her sister, Linda Morris of Columbia Tennessee; by her nephews, Tyrone and Brett Neal(Jen), of Columbia, Tennessee; and by her niece Grace Anne Morris, of Columbia, Tennessee.
