George Hooten was a well known local pharmacist who dedicated his life to the service of others. He was affectionately known as Doc or Doc Hooten. He graduated from Isaac Litton High School in 1959. He graduated from UT College of Pharmacy in 1964 and began his career at Brush Drugs in Inglewood, TN, before becoming owner of Donelson Drug Mart in Donelson, TN. George went on to become owner of Shiloh Drug Mart in Old Hickory, TN and began working with McKendree Manor at their beginning and opened Manor Pharmacy in McKendree Towers. He went on to open Exclusively Yours Inc., Manor Medical and George Edward’s Jewelry all located in the McKendree Towers in Hermitage, TN. After retiring for a short while, George returned to his love of being a pharmacist and finished out his career at Del Mar Pharmacy in Mt. Juliet, TN. George Hooten loved watching football. He spent many hours cheering on the University of Tennessee Volunteers and was proud to be a Tennessee Titans PSL founder.
He was preceded in death by his father, George Baker Hooten; mother, Johnnie Mae Hooten, and sister Patricia Ann Hooten-Moon.
Survived by his wife of 20 years, Sherry Denise Hooten; children, Amanda Hooten, Richard Hooten (Susan), Christopher Hooten (Teresa), Angela Hooten, Alicia Hooten-Goff (Tommy), Alexandra Hull; sister, Jane Hooten-Elam (Wade); and grandchildren, Hannah Hooten, Aiden Hooten Baltz.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at 4 o’clock in the afternoon until 8 o’clock in the evening on Thursday, November 3rd in Lindsley Hall of Mount Olivet Funeral Home.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at 10 o’clock in the morning until 11 o’clock in the morning on Friday, November 4th in Lindsley Hall of Mount Olivet Funeral Home.
A Celebration Memorial Service will follow and be held at 11 o’clock in the morning on Friday, November 4th, 2022. Private graveside services to follow with Richard Hooten, Christopher Hooten, Angela Hooten, Aiden Hooten Baltz, Johnny Vanderpool and Zach Jackson serving as pallbearers Honorary Pallbearers are Hal Hardin, Stan Bradley, Mickey Jackson, and Andy Valentine.
In lieu of flowers or donations, the family has asked you to pay it forward the “George Hooten Way.” George was always doing for others and never asked for anything in return.
