Gary was born on September 22, 1949 in New Orleans, Louisiana to Duplain and Evelyn Morel. He graduated college from Memphis State where he attained his Bachelors degree. He served four years in the United States Marine Corp in the Presidential Helicopter Squadron. Following his time in the Marines, Gary worked for Veterans Affairs for 31 years. He and his wife Janis were members of Crievewood Baptist Church for 42 years.
Gary was an honest, kind, family-oriented and faithful man. He married the love of his life on August 2, 1975. Some of Gary’s fondest moments were spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. He enjoyed going out to eat and celebrating everything.
Gary is survived by his wife of 47 years, Janis Morel; Daughter, Janna (John) McGregor; Son, Paul (Erica) Morel; Sisters, Linda Robinson and Pam (Craig) Windmueller; Grandchildren, Alana, James, Zeke, Ava and Lexie; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Gary is preceded in death by his Parents, Duke and Evelyn More; sister, Maureen Hollingsworth; Brother-in-law, Victor Robinson; and Grandson, Thomas McGregor.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations in honor of Gary be made to the Nashville Rescue Mission.
A gathering of family and friends for Gary will be held Tuesday, February 21, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 660 Thompson Ln, Nashville, TN 37204. A visitation will occur at Crievewood Baptist church prior to the Celebration of Life Wednesday, February 22, 2023 from 10:00 AM until the service at 11:00 AM at Crievewood Baptist Church, 480 Hogan Rd., Nashville, TN 37220. A graveside service will occur Wednesday, February 22, 2023 from 12:15 PM to 12:45 PM at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 660 Thompson Ln, Nashville, TN 37204.
