October 13, 1926 – June 10, 2018
HUGGINS, Frances Campbell – Passed peacefully to heaven on June 10, 2018. She was born on October 13, 1926 in Nashville, Tennessee to Frances Dustin and George Knox Campbell. She is preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, William Hooper Huggins, her parents and her sisters, Patricia Brewer and Helen Campbell. She is survived by her son William Hooper “Bill” Huggins, Jr. (Susan); Daughters Frances “Sissy” Huggins Allen and Marguerite Huggins Clayton (Neal); Grandchildren William Allen Huggins (Maggie); Ruth Dustin Huggins; John O’Neal Clayton III (Rachael); William Huggins Clayton (Libby); Stewart Walker Clayton; Thomas Emerson Allen (Megan) and Great Grandchildren, William Emory Huggins, Charlotte Ruth Huggins and Catherine Ellis Clayton.
A lifelong Nashvillian, Frances attended Parmer School and Ward-Belmont College. As a young lady in Nashville, she was presented in the first court of the Bal d’Hiver in Nashville and announced at The Cotton Ball in Chattanooga, TN. On March 5, 1949, Frances married her devoted and lifelong partner, Hooper Huggins. Over the years she volunteered at St. Thomas Hospital, the American Red Cross and The Little Theater. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, SAP Sorority at Ward-Belmont, The Centennial Club, Cheekwood Botanical Gardens, Stoney Crest Garden Club, and a sustaining member of the Junior League of Nashville.
She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, a doting grandmother (and great-grandmother) and loyal and caring friend. She remained dedicated to her lifelong friends from Parmer School and Ward-Belmont days but it was her family who truly gave her life. Known as “Nannie” by her loved ones, her home was a place of solace, laughter and joy. She loved freely and deeply. Her soft hands and sweet southern voice left an indelible mark on everyone she met and her kind acceptance was a blessing to all who knew her.
The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to her wonderful caregivers Cathy Black, Rebekah Black, and Virginia Loudmire and her phenomenal physicians Dr. Edwin Anderson and Dr. Angelo Canonico. Visitation will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church on Thursday, June 21 from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM with memorial service to follow. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to: Westminster Presbyterian Church 3900 West End Avenue Nashville, TN 37205 Or the charity of your choice.
