Fayrene “Fay” Wolfenbarger Flinchum, age 87, passed away on Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville. She was born on June 17, 1933 in Knoxville to the late Fred and Bertha Turner Wolfenbarger.
Fay graduated from Nashville’s West End High School in the early fifties. In 1956, she was hired by Eastern Airlines as a stewardess. She enjoyed her job but was forced to give it up when she married in 1958 because she could not be married and still fly. Fay went back to college in her late thirties and was the oldest in her classes, sometimes older than her teachers. After her late schooling, she went into real estate and became one of the top agents in her office.
Fay was not just a joiner, she was a worker and got involved. She was the founding President of the Washington D.C. Chapter of EAL Silverlines, “Eastern Airlines Stewardess Alumna Association”. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority in Nashville and it carried over to becoming President of the Montgomery County MD Chapter. She also was President of the United Airline Pilot Wives Chapter in Washington D.C. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Nashville. Fay was a woman of many interests and talents, but she will be best remembered for her love of family.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Harold Flinchum; daughter, Cheryl Dobson; son, Kyle Flinchum; brother, Ralph Wolfenbarger; and grandchildren, Kevin Dobson, Carson Buck Flinchum, Bryce Buck Flinchum, and Sierra Buck Flinchum all of whom she was so proud and loved so dearly.
Go with God, Fay. We the family, love you dearly and miss you greatly.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Tuesday, February 23, 2021 at eleven o’clock at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home with a one hour gathering of family friends prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital or a charity of choice.
