Evelyn Ruth Davy, age 88 of Nashville, TN departed this life February 25, 2021. She was born in Nashville, Tennessee to the late Henry J. and Armina Hembree Silveman. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, James E. Davy and son, Joseph B. "Joey" Davy.
She is survived by her children, Kim Given of Morehead City, NC, Emily(John) Norwig of Pittsburgh, PA and Chris Davy of Ocala, FL; grandchildren, Erin Norwig, Nicholas Norwig, Luke Norwig, Christopher Davy and Jason Davy; sisters, Margaret (Albert) Weinberg and Mary Jo Silveman.
Evelyn was a graduate of East High School and David Lipscomb College where she was a member of the Press Club. She taught Business courses at Hume Fogg High School. She relocated to Fort Smith, Arkansas with her husband who was in the army.
Evelyn and James returned to Nashville and she began teaching at Hillsboro High School. She decided to leave and become a full time homemaker. Evelyn returned to college at Middle Tennessee State University to seek certification to teach Elementary Education. She began a long career teaching 6th grade at Carter-Lawrence in the Metro Nashville Public Schools until her retirement in 1998. She was a member of the Phi Delta Kappa professional education fraternity.
Evelyn was an active member of the Crieve Hall Church of Christ from its inception and many other community organizations.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Monday, March 1, 2021 from nine until ten o'clock in the morning at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home with a Graveside service to follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to the Joey Davy Scholarship at David Lipscomb University.
