Deacon Eugene McKissack Sr. was born July 12, 1934 in Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee. He was the son of the late Sam and Mary Crawley McKissack. He peacefully transitioned from this earthly life on March 7, 2024. He was educated in the Davidson County School System. Eugene was married to the late Sallie Ann Brown McKissack for 62 years. His second wife was Nellie Coleman McKissack from Yorktown, Viriginia. They were married for 4 years. Eugene enjoyed all aspects of life.
His Christian life began at the Saint James Missionary Baptist Church in 1979, under the pastorate of Reverend Robert S. McCathern. He started his work in the church by serving on the Usher Board. He later was ordained to be a deacon and served on the Deacon Board. He later was appointed to serve as a trustee on the Trustee Board. Deacon McKissack was chairman of both the Deacon Board and Trustee Board. He enjoyed sharing the goodness of Jesus thru teaching Sunday School Class each and every Sunday. Deacon Mckissack was loyal and faithful in his service to Saint James Missionary Baptist Church until his health began to fail. Eugene was retired from Reynolds Aluminum after 42 years of service. After retirement he worked for CarMax part-time.
He leaves to cherish his memory two sons, Eugene, Jr. (Rosalyn) and Darrell (Judy) McKissack; sisters, Ruby Wright and Samella (Emmett) Hall; brothers, Thomas and Joe McKissack; grandchildren, Cherika, Derrick and Kimberly McKissack; great-grandchildren, Derrick McKissack, Jr., Darian Marshall, Titus and Taleah Ellsworth; a host of stepfamily of Virigina, nephews, nieces, cousins, church family and friends. Devoted niece, Patricia (Reverend Bobby) Nichols; special nephews, William (Gloria) Wigfall and Major (Barbara) Clay; members of Saint James Missionary Baptist Church.
A gathering of family & friends for Eugene will be held Friday, March 15, 2024 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 660 Thompson Ln, Nashville, TN 37204. A celebration of life will occur Friday, March 15, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM, 660 Thompson Ln, Nashville, TN 37204.
A committal service will occur Friday, March 15, 2024 at 2:30 PM at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
