After Ibby graduated from St. Cecilia Academy in 1959, she went on to study British history at the University of Tennessee. In 1961, Ibby met her beloved husband of 60 years, William L. Tomlinson, Jr. William and Ibby went on to have three children: William L. Tomlinson III, Susan D. Senna, and Carroll A. Ames. She also lived in Miami, Florida for 20 years and in Plano, Texas for 11 years before she moved back to the Nashville area. She made some of the dearest friends of her life during her journey in Florida and Texas and treasured every moment she spent with them.
Ibby played competitive tennis for 45 years, and she loved traveling, especially to England. She was also a beloved and devoted member of the Franklin 14 UDC chapter for many years and served as Historian. She was an accomplished writer of poetry and prose, and she wrote for several organizations that published her work on various platforms. She loved animals and gardening, adorning her yard with traditional English garden landscapes.
Ibby was predeceased by her husband, William Tomlinson, Jr., and her parents, Carroll and Reese Rye. She is survived by her brother, Edward L. King, Atlanta, GA; son, William Tomlinson III of Nashville, TN; daughters Susan Dale Senna, San Antonio, TX, and Carroll Allyn Ames, Chattanooga, TN, and their families. Ibby's dearly loved grandchildren include Stephanie Reese Senna and Brooke Elizabeth McCastle, both of San Antonio, TX; Kathryn Shaye Barham of Clifton Park, NY; and Margaret Clare Crist of Chattanooga, TN. Her cherished great-grandchildren include Annabelle Rose Stocks, Michael Raymond McCastle, Jr., Oliver William Barham, and Miles Louis Barham.
Services will be held at Mount Olivet Funeral Home in Nashville on Wednesday, May 31, 2023, with a viewing from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, the chapel service from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, and the burial service at Calvary Cemetery at 2:00 PM.
