Elizabeth Mai Smith Baggett, age 96, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on September 11, 2020. Elizabeth was born Sunday, March 16, 1924, in Cleveland, Tennessee, to the late James A. and Katherine W. Smith. She was the oldest of three children and graduated from East High School in 1944. Elizabeth worked for Singer Sewing Machine Company for four years as a bill clerk. She then served 15 years for the Metro Police Department on the School Mothers’ Patrol. She was a preschool teacher at Lockeland Baptist Church and then at Holly Street Daycare from 1978-1995. She was a faithful member of Lockeland Baptist Church for 68 years where she served as a Sunday School teacher and director, Church Training teacher, and WMU member. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, J.C. Baggett, and her brothers Buddy Smith and Cecil Smith. She is survived by her three children, Sheran Boyte (Tommy), Kathy Baggett, and Kevin Baggett, and two grandchildren, Tasha Walker (Tracy) and Collin Baggett. Visitation will be held at Eastland Funeral Home on Thursday, September 17, from 2-8. A graveside service will take place at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton on Friday, September 18, at 10 AM. A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date.
