Nena was born October 5, 1932 in Julimes, Chihuahua, Mexico; a small agrarian community, to parents Jose Luis Romero and Maria Severa Quintana. She was the seventh of ten children. She met her future husband, Don Lee, in El Paso, Texas and was married in 1963.
Ms. Lee is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and six of her brothers and sisters.
Ms. Lee is survived by her son, David Lee (Jan Cortelyou Lee); grandchildren Seth and Matthew, of Raleigh NC. Additionally she is survived by an older brother, Andres Romero (Juarez, Mexico ); a younger sister, Enriqueta Rivas (Chihuahua, Mexico) and younger brother, Lupe Romero (Wichita Falls, TX), and a small host of nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
After moving to Nashville, she worked for the Standard Candy Company, the maker of King Leo peppermint sticks and GooGoo clusters. She then entered and graduated from the Hassler Barber College in 1970 and ultimately became part of the Unique Barber and Style Shop. She cut hair in downtown Nashville, first in the Exchange Building and then the First American Center, for over 35 years.
Ms. Lee was a devoted and active member of the congregation of the Cathedral of the Incarnation in Nashville for over 50 years. In addition to the Church, Ms. Lee gave tirelessly of herself and her time to various groups over the years, in particular groups assisting with international families that made the move to Middle Tennessee from abroad.
A Memorial Mass will be held at the Cathedral of the Incarnation in Nashville on Saturday June 11, 2016 at 10 am. A small reception will follow in the Fleming Center adjacent the church. A second memorial service will take place in Chihuahua Mexico the following week.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Ladies of Charity or the Legion of Mary at the Cathedral of the Incarnation.
