Edwin Odell ( E.O.) Carlton, age 77, passed away at his home, on Wednesday, February 2, 2011. In addition to his loving wife of 58 years, Polly Shields Carlton, he is survived by two sons, Joe Carlton (Stephanie) and Jim Carlton (Sonja); and three grandchildren, Grant Carlton, Meredith Carlton and Art Carlton. Also three siblings, Barbara Vandergrift, Ruth Casey and Ray Carlton. He was preceded by his parents, Rufus and Johnnie Ray Carlton; and sisters, Delores Horn and Brenda Dale. Odell graduated from Hume Fogg High School in Nashville, TN, then proudly served in the US Air Force for 4 years during the Korean Conflict, at which time he was a member of the Strategic Air Command (SAC). He later attended Vanderbilt University. Odell was employed at Otis Elevator Company of Nashville, TN, for 38 years, before retiring and moving to Florida. An avid golfer, Odell spent a great deal of time on the golf course trying to lower his handicap. In later years, he returned to Tennessee to be closer to his family. He resided in Collierville, TN for 8 years and enjoyed spending time with his loving family and friends. Active pallbearers will be Perry Burch, Randall Sexton, Glen Story, Danny Robbins, Jr., Ronnie Turner, Earl Beaty and Stephen Powell. Honorary pallbearers will be Johnson Cook, Bob Eakes, Bob Gaughan, Larry Lovvorn, Beverly Nelson, retired and present employees of Otis Elevator Company and Local 93 IUEC. Funeral Service will be at 1:00pm Saturday in Dignity Hall at Woodlawn Roesch-Patton Funeral Home with Rev. Doug Westmoreland officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be Friday from 1:00pm till 8:00pm and Saturday from 11:00am until service time at Woodlawn Roesch-Patton Funeral Home, 660 Thompson Lane, Nashville, TN, 37204, 615-383-4754.
