Ward graduated from David Lipscomb High School in 1987 where he was part of the class AA State Boys Basketball team. He then attended The University of Tennessee-Knoxville where he was a proud member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity and participated actively in campus intramurals. This enabled him to continue his love of basketball and sport comradery with his Greek brothers.
Ward was preceded in death by his mother, Janice Anderson Herbert. He was devoted to his family and survived by his loving wife Ellen Phillips Herbert, children Payton and Ben Herbert; father Edward Thomas Herbert (MaryAnne); sisters Lettie (Mark) Vandiver, Amy (Don) Hirt and many loving in-laws, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Ward’s family and children were the light of his life. He followed all sports and was an avid UT and Orioles fan and could quote sports statistics with the best. Ward never met a stranger and shared his many gifts though his career in sales.
A celebration of life service was held at 11 a.m. Friday, October 27, 2023. Visitation was held two hours prior to the service at Harpeth Hills Church of Christ, located at 1949 Old Hickory Boulevard in Brentwood, TN.
Additional information will be updated soon for donations to honor Ward through a fund for the benefit of Ben’s future.
